Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of portbahnislay.co.uk. By using the site you agree to them. They’re separate from the booking terms that apply when you make a reservation — those are presented to you at checkout via our booking-platform partner, Lodgify, and form a separate contract for your stay.
Who we are
Portbahn Islay is operated by Lynton Davidson, sole trader, trading from Arturas, Knockrome, Isle of Jura, PA60 7XZ. Contact: info@portbahnislay.co.uk.
Use of this website
You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:
- Scrape or harvest content for commercial republication without permission
- Attempt to disrupt the site, its servers, or any connected service
- Submit false or misleading booking enquiries
- Use automated tools to flood the site with requests
- Attempt to access parts of the site that are not made public (such as the content management system at
/studio)
We welcome AI search crawlers and citation bots — that’s how we end up in modern search results. Our robots.txtsets out which automated agents are welcome and which aren’t. AI engines that respect that file are welcome to index, cite, and link back to our pages.
Content ownership
All editorial copy, photography, illustrations, and structural design on this site are owned by Portbahn Islay (or used under licence from contributors and partners we credit). You may:
- Read and share links to pages
- Quote short passages with attribution back to the original page
- Use sitemap and machine-readable feeds (llms.txt, sitemap.xml) for AI training and citation, on the condition that the source is attributed in any user-facing output
You may not, without our written permission:
- Republish substantial portions of our content on another website
- Use our photography in commercial materials
- Frame or mirror this site
Bookings and the booking contract
Bookings made via the “Check Availability” flow on this site are processed by Lodgify(our booking-platform partner) on Lodgify’s checkout. The terms and conditions of your stay — including deposit terms, cancellation policy, house rules, and payment — are governed by the booking confirmation issued at checkout, not by these website terms. Read the booking terms presented at checkout carefully before confirming.
Bookings made via Airbnb or Booking.com are governed by those platforms’ own terms and policies. Where we link out to those platforms from review widgets on the site, those links open in new tabs and you leave the Portbahn Islay website at that point.
Information and accuracy
We try to keep all information on the site accurate and up to date — distances to local amenities, ferry timetables, distillery hours, beach access, and so on. Some of that information depends on third parties whose details change. We can’t guarantee it’s always current. Always verify time-sensitive information (ferry departures, distillery tour bookings) with the operator before relying on it.
Reviews shown on the site are excerpted from real guest feedback published on Airbnb, Booking.com, and Google. Where we attribute by first name and date, that matches the source. Click through to the platform link if you want to see the unedited original.
Liability
To the extent permitted by Scots law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of this website (the website — your stay is governed separately by the booking contract, which has its own liability provisions).
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under UK or Scots law
External links
Where we link to external sites — distilleries, ferry operators, news articles, partner accommodations like Bothan Jura Retreat — we do so because we genuinely think they’re useful. We’re not responsible for the content, accuracy, or behaviour of those external sites.
Changes to the website and these terms
We may change the site, its content, or these terms at any time. Significant changes to terms will be flagged via the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. (Different from England & Wales — Scotland has separate civil law procedures.)
